Neoscape Projects
City in Bloom
Summary:
The city in bloom project was one of the biggest projects that I worked on at Neoscape. The purpose of the project was to present how Boston's Big Dig would look at the end of its completion. It was a lot of fun to work on this project for several reasons. I did a lot of photography of Boston buildings for the digitizing stage of the project. All of the buildings that surround the Big Dig needed to be digitized into 3D models with accurate facades. The second reason why this project was interesting and challenging is that I solved the problem of creating 3D models of buildings of Boston's suburban cities. Since these models where far in the distance, their fidelity did not need to be very high. However, these buildings needed to be present in the background. The way that I solved this problem of creating some 30,000 to 40,000 buildings in a short period of time for Neoscape is by using CAD drawings and a database information on each building. City CAD drawings provide the footprint of the buildings. I programmed a script in 3D Studio Max to use these foot prints and the database information about the height of the building in order to create a properly sized building, with a parapet, and a generic bitmap for a facade. Below you can see the final animation of the City in Bloom. You may visit http://www.neoscape.com/ for more information.
