Olfactory Systems Lab Projects

Machining Teflon Odor Vials

Summary:

Besides programming data analysis software, I also designed and machined components for a Flow Dilution Olfactometer.  Basically, a flow dilution olfactometer is a machine that is capable of delivering odors at various concentrations to a test animal.  The animal's olfactory glomeruli are imaged using a microscope system and various dyes in order to view the firing of the neurons.  Below you can see an image of an Olfactometer.  You can also see images of the Teflon vials that I machined for the olfactometer.  Teflon is used since it can be autoclaved for cleaning the Olfactometer.
